As a huge pizza aficionado, I can proudly say I have eaten many a slice of pizza on many a trip. I don’t discriminate against any topping or base and have had the pleasure of trying all sorts of flavour combinations including Neighbourhood’s offering, otherwise known as the number one pizza joint in Copenhagen.
In the heart of Copenhagen’s Vesterbro area, Neighbourhood serves up gourmet organic pizzas, cocktails and Danish craft beer. Emphasis is on community and great food so the set up inside consists of lots of long tables where you can sit side by side with locals, listen to their great vinyl selection (shout out for the old school RnB that was going on when we visited) and indulge in their huge platters of pizza. It’s the perfect place to just hang out and enjoy each others company.
With a sign like this outside it would be rude not to follow…
Their entertaining cocktail menu will have you laughing with choices such as the Rhubarb Rhapsody that is pink and fluffy and is sure to make you feel like a queen or the Red Light Liquid – fresh, fruity and sour – just like a pimp!
We went for their classic Neighbourhood Brew craft beer that is locally made.
Then came the pizzas! We opted for the Basil Shrimp and Egg Mushroom and boy were they good. The bases are so thin and crispy, almost like an Italian flat bread crossed with a popadom, minus the Indian spices of course.
The juicy big shrimp were roasted in Argentinian garlic, baked with red onions, covered with their parmesan sauce and fresh chunks of crumbled cheese and topped with basil and a squeeze of lemon.
It was love at first bite with the Egg Mushroom, topped with roasted oyster mushrooms, a mild habanero mango tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella and parsley. It’s then finished with an egg cracked on top. Once you slice it up, all the yokey goodness soaks in to the rest of pizza and it’s just too good for words.
